Cracking, breaking, shrinking, forming, finding, pausing, resisting. Firing, fracturing, dripping, melting, pooling, fusing, breathing. Extending, exploring, reaching, searching, seeking, playing, becoming. In a medium that transitions toward permanence, I explore how we become human through continual negotiation with the forces that shape us. Accumulation and repeated firings depict how previous versions of ourselves persist within the ongoing formation of identity.

Vitrified ceramic supports the growth and decay of a new form. Soft clay rejects adherence to fired ceramic, cracking as it dries and shrinks to fit a rigid structure. As material accumulates, it provides a process to externalize the intangible experiences of transformation.

Through an ongoing exploration of experimental building and firing processes, new form is fostered through the support of a vitrified ceramic structure. Soft clay rejects adherence to fired ceramic, cracking as it dries and shrinks to a rigid structure. Humans crack as we shrink to fit rigid systems, so I find freedom through the rejection of adherence to traditional processes. Forms of unexpected reverence prevail as they depict a frozen moment of becoming between past and present life.
